Do you have stale, rock-hard bread? You can use it to make breadcrumbs, bread pudding, soufflé, bread soup....

But I'll leave you a much simpler suggestion : cut the bread into little pieces, put them in a bag, go to a park, place, lake (...) where there are ducks, swans and similar birds and have fun feeding them :)

Projecto 52 - 7ª Semana // Project 52 - 7th week

On a trip to the other side of the river, on a very rainy day, I catched a glimpse of the city, that brightened my day :)

Dia dos Namorados // St. Valetine's Day

Ontem foi assim :
Yesterday was like this :

2- o meu namorado acha as minhas botas-pantufa sexy :P

The outfit : my pijama pants and my houseboots! Don't judge me right away, I had good reasons for this choice :
1- I came home very wet and cold from waiting for the bus
2- my boyfriend finds my houseboots sexy :P

The menu : soup, cheese fondue and ham. We forgot about desert and I'm glad we did because by the end of it we were too full!

I don't care that much about Valentine's day. I'll not be saying that it's too consumist because the truth is that it only comes down to consumerism if we let it. I just never really cared about this holiday... It's also true that 2 weeks before V-day is my birthday, 3 weeks after V-day is our "anniversary" and 3 weeks after that is my boyfriends birthday, so adding another day of presents and eating out on the 14th Febraury would be a little too much :P Nevertheless, I like to remember the date with something small... This year I made this bouquet of red paper flowers out of napkins!

Para fazer as flores segui este vídeo.
To make the flowers I followed the instructions on this video.

Blog negligenciado e posts atrasados // Neglected blog and delayed posts

One day the "Blog and similar Protective Services" will be called to take away my "Thought Bubble" because I don't give it enough food posts. I've had a hard week at work and at home, with lots of things to do and even more planned for the weekend. But there are two things that I cant postpone - the 12 Months Project and the Project 52.

Well, you can read more about Project 12 Months here. January was the time to learn the name of our Presidents.

Manuel de Arriaga
Teófilo Braga
Bernardino Machado
Sidónio Pais
Canto e Castro
António José de Almeida
Manuel Teixeira Gomes
Mendes Cabeçadas
Gomes da Costa
Óscar Carmona
Craveiro Lopes
Américo Tomás
António Spínola
Costa Gomes
Ramalho Eanes
Mário Soares
Jorge Sampaio
Cavaco Silva
(e não, não tenho nenhum nome novo a acrescentar)
(and no, I don't have a new one to add to the list)

I've learned many curiosities about our Presidents : most of them were from the millitary or they studied Law. However, two of them were mathematicians and another was a doctor. We also had a monarchy-supporter President and a brasilian born President. For more information check out the Presidency's website (it has an English version, so don't worry)

For February the challenge is to learn the names of all the countries and capital cities of Europe. I found an interactive map to help me do this so, instead of writing down the list, I'll leave you with the link : just click here!

Now, for Project 52, I must confess I'm using  photo I took last week. This week I dind't have the time nor the inspiration to snap a few shots, but I think this one turned out so good that I had to post it eventually... Once again, my model is Tinota.

Do you know those days where you feel your head so heavy from all the work and all you want to do is to get home and eat some real confort food, while watching the news? This week I had one of those days... And when I started to think about what to cook for dinner, I quickly came to an answer : minced meat with mashed potatoes - my favourite food!

The only down side of mashed potatoes is making them : it's hard work, creates a huge mess and is very tiring. If I hadn't a trick up my sleeve, my dinner plans would've have to change...

First of all, I dice the potatoes into relatively small cubes and cook them in salt water until they're very soft.

After draining them, I add milk and butter to the potatoes. I use quite a bit of milk and butter because I love creamy, buttery mashed potatoes! I put the pot over low heat, just until the milk starts bubbling.

After that (and here is the real revolution) I take out my handmixer and mix the potatoe, milk and butter mixture until everything is well blended and mashed. I add a little nuttmeg, whisk it in and there you have it - great mashed potatoes with half the effort :D

And because mashed potatoes with minced meat is my all time favourite food, I let my inner child rise above and created a swimmingpool on top of my pile of mashed potatoes!

Projecto 52 - 5ª Semana // Project 52 - 5th week

These sunny days have been so nice... It's too bad I have to spend the entire day at the office... :( But sometimes, during lunch time, I get around to enjoy some minutes of warm Winter sun!

O meu primeiro knock-off : cinto de laço // My first knok off : bowtie belt

I did my first (of many, I hope) knock-off project a few days ago :)

In the summer catalogue of "la Redoute", I saw a very simple belt, which I loved! It's just what I need to give my outfits a certain "je ne sais quoi"...

On top of that, I had put aside my boyfriends bowties, which he used in the ball galas of Queima das Fitas*,  ages ago to repurpose and finally had found something to use them for! That, in adition to some black velvet ribbon and some snap buttons, was all it took to make my fashionable belt.

I measured my waist and added 10 cm, then I cut the ribbon in that length.

Cosi dois botões mola nos 10com extra.

On that 10 cm flap, I sewed on the snap buttons.

Then I sewed the bowtie on, making sure it wouldn't fall off.

Já está!

You're all done!

*for more information, read here. One of the events of Queima das Fitas is a gala for the seniors, where women are required to wear formal gowns and men to wear a black bowtie and sash. I already have plans for the sashes :P
