Protector Solar no Inverno // Sunscreen in the Winter

Sabiam que devíamos usar protector solar também no Inverno? Sabiam que, depois de um ano aberto, um protector solar perde a sua eficácia? 

Did you know that we should use sunscreen in the Winter? Did you know that sunscreen looses its efectiveness one year after it's been opened?

 

Ora bem, mas então no Inverno não andamos sempre cheios de roupa? É verdade, sim senhora, mas há duas partes do nosso corpo que estão sempre a apanhar com o sol : a nossa cara (hmmm...quem é que não gosta de sentir o quentinho de uns raios solares nas bochechas, naqueles dias de frio intenso?) e as nossas mãos. 

Well, but aren't we always covered in clothes during Winter? In fact, that's true, but there are two bodyparts that are always reached by the sun : our face (hmmm...who doesn't like to feel the warm kiss of the sun on those cold Winter days?) and our hands.

Para a cara, já toda a gente está alertada e hoje já há muitos cremes hidratantes e bases que têm um FPS de, pelo menos, 15.

Mas eu penso que as mãos são as eternas esquecidas. É claro que podemos usar luvas, mas nem sempre dão jeito e, falando por mim, só são adequadas para dias realmente frios, ou então fico com os dedos muito quentes, inchados e com comichão. Fora isso, andamos com elas ao léu, a apanhar com todos os UVB que por aí andam. 

Today, people are already alerted to the importance of using a daily face moisturizer or foundation with an SPF factor, of at least, 15.

But I think that the hands are still left unattended. We could wear gloves, of course, but they aren't always practical and, speaking for myself, they're only suitable for very cold days, or else my fingers get very hot, swollen and itchy. Gloves aside, most of us leave our hands unprotected from all the UVB-rays floating around in the air.

Ora, a minha avó sempre disse que as mãos nunca mente, que dizem sempre a nossa idade: podemos ter pele lisa e uniforme em todo o lado, menos nas mãos, essas acusam sempre a verdade. Por outro lado, um dos factores que mais envelhece a pele é o sol. Ora, juntando as duas informações, fiquei aqui com a solução para o meu dilema de início de época de praia : o que fazer com as embalagens abertas e não gastas de protector? 

Well, my grandmother always said that our hands never lie, that they always tell our age: we can have flawless and smooth skin all over our body, except for the hands, they tell the truth everytime. On the other hand, one of the things that most contributes to the ageing of our skin is the sun. Well, putting these two together, I got the answer for my yearly dilemma : what to do with the opened, but not used, sunscreen bottles from last Summer?

Pois, agora pus o meu protector na entrada de casa e antes de sair ponho sempre um pouco nas mãos! Além de ficar com elas protegidas, fico com elas hidratadas. Assim, nem deito fora o creme e, espero eu, retardo um pouco o envelhecimento da pele das mãos (e sei que ainda sou novita, no entanto, nestas coisas, como em muita outra coisa relacionada com a saúde e beleza, mais vale começar cedo do que tarde).

So, now I've put my sunscreen on the table in my hallway and I always put a little on my hands, before leaving the house! Besides protecting them, I am also moisturizing them. This way, I don't toss half a bottle of sunscreen away and I slow down the ageing of my hands, or at least I hope so (and I know I am still young, but, in things concerning health and beauty, the sooner you start, the better).

Apanhado (de cabelo) da Meia // Sockbun

Há pouco tempo, quando li os comentários de um post noutro blog, tomei conhecimento de uma coisa chamada "Sock Bun", ou seja, "apanhado da meia", um apanhado de cabelo em que se aproveitava uma meia velha (!!). É óbvio que tive de ir pesquisar, pois meias desemparelhadas é o que não falta por aqui (costumo usá-las para limpar sapatos, mas mesmo assim ainda sobram) e a oportunidade de aprender um penteado novo é coisa que eu não deixo passar.

Some time ago, when I read the comments on a post in another blog, I learned about something called Sock Bun, a hair up-do where, allegedly, you used an old sock (!!). Of course, I had to check it out, because this household ain't short on unmatched socks ( I usually use them to clean shoes, but I still have a lot) and I couldn't let the opportunity to learn a new hair-do pass by.

No youtube vi este vídeo, muito giro e tal, dá para ver como se faz o apanhado, mas eu não percebia onde é que entrava a meia e, ainda por cima, era necessário ter aquela coisa em forma de donut. Já estava desanimada quando decidi ver outro filme, que era muito comprido e secante Mas finalmente percebi qual o papel da meia : fazer o tal donut!

I saw this video on youtube, very nice and all, you learn how to make the up-do, but I couldn't figure out where the sock entered the process and, on top of that, you had to have a dougnut-shaped thing to make it work. I was already a little disappointed when I decided to watch this other video, which was very long and boring... But I finally found out what the sock's part was in this hair-do : you made the doughnut-shaped thing out of it!

Como eu não vos quero obrigar a desperdiçar 6 minutos a ver este último filme, decidi fazer um pequeno tutorial para fazer o donut.

I don't want you to waste 6 minutes watching this last video, so I decided to make a little tutorial on how to make the doughnut.

Primeiro, encontrar uma meia e cortar-lhe a ponta (onde ficam os dedos). Para cabelos mais fartos e grossos, usem uma meia de homem. Se tiverem cabelinhos fininhos (moi même) usem uma meia de senhora. Se quiserem fazer uns toutiços mais pequeninos, usem meias de criança.

First of all, find a sock and cut of its tip (where the toes are). If you have a lot or thick hair, you're better off using a man's sock. If you have finer hair (like myself), use a lady's sock. If you want to make little buns, use a child's sock.

Depois, é só começar a enrolar, começando pela parte cortada e terminando no tornozelo. Suponho que, chegando ao fim, possam dar uns pontinhos para não se desenrolar, mas eu não achei necessário.

Then, you just have to roll the sock, starting from the cut part and ending on the anckle bit. I suppose that you could make some stitches in the end, so that it doesn't unroll, but I didn't think it was necessary.

Para fazer o apanhado, é só ver o primeiro filme. É muito fácil de fazer e sempre é um penteado diferente. Eu não fiz a parte da trança, primeiro porque não gosto, segundo porque não teria cabelo suficiente. As pontas soltas, que ficam depois de se esconder o dónut e prender com um puxinho, enrolei-as à volta do toutiço e prendi com ganchinhos no final, de forma a estes ficarem escondidos debaixo do apanhado.

To make the actual hair-do, just watch the first video. It's very easy and it's a different way to wear your hair. I didn't braided my hair, though, because, first,  I didn't like the look and, second, I wouldn't have enough hair to pull it off anyway.  I just rolled the loose hair, that hangs from the sides after you hide the sock, around the bun and secured the ends with some hairpins, that I hid under the bun.
